Hi Lo 13 Blackjack

Hi Lo 13 Blackjack is another one of those modern variants of the Las Vegas classic that comes equipped with a side bet, designed to provide players with additional wagering opportunities. Besides placing the standard blackjack wager, you have the option to also place a bet on the Hi Lo side bet, which definitely adds to the excitement.

With regards to said side bet, you are required to guess whether the total of your first two cards will be higher than 13, lower than 13 or exactly 13, and it is important to note that Ace always counts as 1 for the purpose of the bonus bet. Successful Hi and Low bets pay even money, whereas 13 total pays 10 to 1. As usual, the side bets have higher house edge than the regular game play, so it’s recommended not to overuse it.

Online Hi Lo Blackjack can be found only in Microgaming casinos. The main game is based on standard European Blackjack rules with the forthmentioned side bet. You should know that there are 2 variants, Hi Lo 13 and Premier Hi Lo 13 –  this is basically the same game just with different design. As you might have guessed, Premier is the recent, flashier version, which you can play for fun here on our site.

Hi Lo 13 Blackjack Rules

Due to the fact that the house edge is well over 6% for side bet wagers, Hi Lo 13 Blackjack is usually played with one or two decks of cards, but you will also find games where four, six or eight decks are used. The Microgaming version offered here is played with 2 decks.

Blackjack and Insurance pay 3:2 and 2:1 respectively, whereas the dealer is required to stand on all 17’s. Double down can be used on first two cards if they have a hard value of 9, 10 or 11, whereas cards of the same denomination can be split.

Hi (14-20) and Lo (2-13) side bets pay even money for successful wagers, while 10 to 1 payout is awarded for successfully predicting the 13 total. While Ace can count as both 1 and 11 for the regular blackjack wager, it will always count as 1 for the bonus side bet.

The basic game rules are quite friendly, which results in 99.60% winning odds. It’s not the best blackjack Microgaming casinos have to offer, that would be Classic Blackjack with 99.79%, but still pretty solid.
